two things i realised about London on the way back yesterday. firstly that when they mean rain, its actually a very slight drizzle. the rain droplets are much finer than the drizzles we have in Singapore and they come and go quickly. if it there was a thunderstorm or heavy rain in london, it'd probably cause a flood.

the second thing i relaised was that pubs are the place for hanging out. not only for the young but also for those who aren't that youthful any longer. pubs are found along many streets, and especially on weekends, i hear voices, toasts, and laughs from the pub from my room till 10 plus. i live on the 2nd floor and there's a pub just across the street. it's really a social hangout without the slight stigma that comes with pubs in singapore.

moving on to the Quiet Time's i've been having. this is the only overseas trip so far that i've done QT on a more regular basis. i'm going through the 40 days of prayer booklet and what i went through yesterday and today reminded me of the things i'd already identified and thought about on the plane :) i've got a bit more perspectives on these issues too. thats affirmation from his word!

two things were interesting yesterday too. one of which was the talk on a drug being developped called extb. its targetted at treating rheumatoid arthritis. the drug activates t regulator cells in the immune system to prevent the destrucion of healthy joint cells. i think i read it in new scientist before but i liked this one cos we were given a real example of how a product is going from lab to bedside. we were told of the long process that drugs have to go through before they can be used clinically. we also got to talk and ask questions to the man who headed this research from the beginning!

the 2nd highlight was our presentation at the ucl cloisters. yay!

26/7/07

its the 2nd day in London alr. i didn't bother writing anything here yesterday. i promtly dropped off to sleep at 9:30pm (s'pore 3am?).

the flight was quite different from normal. usually when i go somewhere, i always start by zamming the inflight entertainment. my movie marathon is usually at least 3 movies long. its only when i go back when i reflect on the trip and think back. this time was different! the flight wasn't full so there were some empty rows at the back. i spent nearly half my time there. sleeping, thinking, writing. some pple shall get letters from me when i'm back. muahaha..

things i like about flying as always: take off, as much turbulence as possible. i usually hate landing cos my ears don't pop properly. i got to know the scientific term for it when i went to nz. i can't rmb now though.. the way down on the flight was interesting this time, cos we got to see the English landscape from above. houses, cars (normal on other flights too), bus depots, nice old buildings, the river thames. i got the impression that there was a $general buzz of activity going on in the town.

weather in london is gorgeous. the air conditioned outdoors is soooooooo good. unlike in spore where class bench you sweat shao and in the audi you freeze shao. we arrived at three pm then got stuck at customs for awhile. the customs officer was (pissed ?) that we didn't have a guardian with us. in the end we reached ramsay at around 5.

the underground in london is less convenient than singapore! it's the only place in London that reminds me of singapore weather. hot and stuffy inside trains and there are warm drafts of wind in the tunnels. ewww. and when they tell you to mind the gap, they really mean it (cos its a step onto the train). we had to carry our luggate up the steps instead of an escalator too. #

the rest of the day: orientation dinner briefing bar jason's room sleep.
